Cleo Dougherty
Cleo started working for Mattel in 1974 and was sent to Cincinnati to put together a retail sales force. In 1976 she moved to Chicago for a territory sales position with Child Guidance, then moved to California in 1979 and worked with Jim Skahill, CBS Gabriel division, Ideal Toys, specialty toy lines and Gotz Dolls. After 18 years with Gotz, she left toy lines behind to focus on dolls and bears. Since 1995, its been dolls. Charisma Brands bought Adora and that brought Marie Osmond Dolls and Jim Skahill’s Kewpies to her repertoire.

Shirley Moore
Shirley was the children’s clothing buyer for I. Magnin for five years and in 1987 was promoted to buying toys. She left I. Magnin to join Talbot’s Toyland in 1992. At Talbot’s, Gordon Moore took her under his wing and taught her his whole philosophy for three years. It was the best training she ever had anywhere. Under Gordon’s direction and drive, and Steve Moore (son of Gordon) and Shirley working to support that, Talbot’s was the first toy store to receive the Retailer of the Year award in 1999 by WTHRA.

Steve Moore
Steve was three years old when his grandfather, Lank Talbot, and father, Gordon Moore, opened Talbot’s Toyland in 1953. He progressed in the toy business slowly from playing with the toys to helping straighten the displays to working in the warehouse through high school. Steve’s special achievement after 11 years of school was returning to Talbot’s Toyland, being part of a major remodeling, learning the business that is Talbot’s and eventually taking the reins, allowing Gordon to enjoy retirement.

Eugene and Jean Yamashita
Eugene and Jean became the owners of Mr. Mopps in 1970 located in Berkeley, California. They redeveloped the store into a toy, book and gift store catering to the neighborhood. Mr. Mopps continued to grow over the years covering one of the largest selections of toys and books from all over the world. Together they created a wonderful mix of items to delight nearly everyone. After four decades they decided it was time to retire and in late November 2010 the new owners took over this beloved local institution.
